Michalis Psimitis is a professor of sociology at the Department of Sociology of the University of the Aegean (Greece). He studied in Italy (B.Sc in Sociology at the University of Bologna), France (M.Sc in Cultural Sociology at the university Paris VIII) and Greece (PhD in Political Sociology at the University of Athens). He is the director of the "Laboratory of Collective Actions and Social Movements" of the University of the Aegean. He is also the coordinator of the Antiracist Observatory of the University of the Aegean. His research interests include collective action and social movements, volunteer organizations, social exclusion and marginalization, refugee crises and the configuration of cultural identities in contemporary post-industrial societies. His scientific publications (books, articles in scientific journals and collective volumes and presentations at conferences) address issues related to social movements, interest groups, solidarity economy, prefiguration and organizational networks. His research experience (mainly as a research coordinator) extends on the topics of refugee crisis, racism and xenophobia, collective actions of protest and solidarity, processes of social inclusion of young people, unemployment and underemployment, drug addiction and anonymous online markets of synthetic drugs, employment counseling services.
